Climb aboard the Big Purple Bus – cancer support showing up in your community
This autumn marks one year since the Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Big Purple Bus took to the road across South Yorkshire, bringing support services directly to its communities.
Two buses take healthcare professionals and advisors into neighbourhoods making it easier for people to access support for every stage of the cancer journey, from advice on staying fit and healthy to emotional and financial challenges faced by those experiencing it.
With a full weekly timetable of stops across the region, the buses welcome hundreds of people onboard seeking friendly advice and information for themselves and their families.
The buses have travelled all over South Yorkshire visiting leisure and community centres, shopping centres, public parks and community events.
Emma Clarke, CEO of Weston Park Cancer Charity, said: “We are so proud of our Big Purple Bus project, and to see the huge impact the buses are already having withing the community is truly outstanding.
“Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that we speak to as many people within the communities as possible.
“We know we are making a huge difference in people’s lives and helping to encourage more people to come forward and share their concerns they may have around cancer.
“Our teams are also raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer with many more local people, so cancer is detected and diagnosed early.”
